Ministry of Consolation

The Ministry of Consolation strives to ensure that no member of our parish grieves alone.  Our bereavement ministers are trained by the Diocese to assist parishioners with funeral planning and arrangements. They guide bereaved family members through the process of planning the details of funeral Masses, memorial Masses and graveside committals. The ministers also serve before and during the funeral or memorial Mass, to assist the family as needed. This Ministry provides all-important follow-up care when necessary.

  • Responsibilities: Assist families with planning funeral services, and provide as-needed support to grieving parishioners.
  • Helpful Attributes: Compassion, sensitivity and strong human interaction skills
  • Time Commitment: Several hours per family. The amount of time depends on each family’s needs, and the number of ministry members available to assist.
  • Requirements to Join: Diocese training, fingerprinting

They provide practical, non-medical assistance such as preparing meals, visiting people in their homes, running errands; and providing transportation to medical appointments, church and the grocery store.

  • Responsibilities: Share the love of Christ through service to others.
  • Helpful Attributes: Compassion and a willingness to serve
  • Time Commitment: The amount of time depends on each person’s specific situation, and the number of ministry members available to assist.
  • Requirements to Join: Ministry training, fingerprinting

Ministry to the Sick

Our Ministry to the Sick provides compassionate care to parishioners who are hospitalized; or  confined to their homes, nursing facilities or hospices. Ministers bring the Eucharist to those who cannot attend church. They also share their time; listening to, and praying along with the ill person and family caregivers. Those who participate in this ministry of charity attest to Jesus’ healing presence in our community.

  • Responsibilities: Drive to the parishioner’s location; administer Holy Communion; visit, listen to and pray with the patient and family caregivers.
  • Helpful Attributes: Compassion for the sick and dying
  • Time Commitment: Varies
  • Requirements to Join: Both Diocese and Ministry training, fingerprinting, valid driver’s license
