 The Resale Store Assistant Manager assists, supervises, monitors and evaluates the daily operations of the St. Vincent de Paul Resale Store. Provides support to the Resale Store Manager by establishing and maintaining customer services and is accountable for the financial accountability and operations of the store ensuring maximum sales and profitability through merchandise, inventory, expense control, human resources management, and managing operating costs and shrinkage 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. 

  • Actively promotes the vision and mission of the St. Vincent de Paul Resale Store. 
  • Assists Store Manager with operations.
  • Creates and promotes exceptional customer service. Fosters a welcoming environment.
  • Addresses customers inquiries and resolves to the best of their ability to customer complaints, while maintaining standard policies and procedures.
  • Maintains high standards of merchandise through overseeing and participating in the cleaning, and inspection of goods. Ensures all merchandise is in working condition, meets safety requirements and is accurately priced.
  • Acts on slow moving merchandise through markdowns and display placement, rotating inventory as needed.
  • Maintains inventory system for sales floor. 
  • Conducts daily ready meetings with the volunteer teams.
  • Trains cashiers of all procedures. Fills in cashier position when necessary.
  • Trains and guides volunteers on processing, pricing and placement of donated goods. 
  • Assists in unloading donation drop offs received, and loading sold merchandise into customers vehicles.
  • Monitors security cameras and handles incidents when they occur.
  • Prepares daily reconciliation of monies to control totals and secures money in tamper proof bags in safe.
  • Works with the volunteer cashiers to ensure accurate recording of sales at the register.
  • Research errors on register and credit card machine and corrects if needed.
  • Opens and closes store operations and produces daily and monthly reports.
  • Adheres to Diocesan policies and procedures, including Fingerprinting and SET.
  • Ensures safety standards are adhered to at all times to prevent injuries.
  • Participates in staff and volunteer meetings.
  • Acts as Store Manager in their absence.

Education and Experience:

  • Experience in retail management (2+ years) and supervision of staff (1+ years) required. 
  • Associate degree highly preferable or equivalent retail/resale and management experience. 
  • Experience overseeing volunteers a plus. Knowledge of cash register operations and reconciliation of funds beneficial. 
  • Must successfully pass Diocesan Safe Environment Training and Background Screening. 
  • Must possess a valid Florida Driver’s License.

Organizational/Interpersonal Skills: 

Excellent organizational skills are required. Strong verbal, writing & organizational skills. Proficiency in Windows, point of sale software, and Microsoft Office. Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction. Strong teamwork skills required. Excellent time management skills required. Sound decision-making skills.

Physical Demands:

This position requires moving stock, stocking shelves, organizing donations, and keeping the store in customer-ready condition. 

This position also requires the ability to:

  • Process information and merchandise through register and inventory system. 
  • Communicate with volunteers and customers. 
  • Read, count and write to accurately complete all documentation. 
  • Freely access all areas of the store including selling floor, stock area, and register area. 
  • Operate and use all equipment necessary to run the store. 
  • Climb ladders. 
  • Ability to stand most of the scheduled time, up to six hours.
  • Move or handle merchandise throughout the store generally weighing up to 50 pounds. 
  • Work varied hours/days to oversee store operations. Ability to work weekends.
